This is a blog for Varian from tangled the series and is very strongly au and headcanon based with characterization based within Canon. in addition to this, the blog will also feature side muses from Varian and the seven kingdoms. This does not mean that this blog is a multi muse. There will simply occasionally be background characters within varian's writing that further his development.

before i begin i want to say that this is a completely hate free blog. all hate anons will be deleted.

one. mutuals. This blog is indie and selective, but not mutual exclusive. my reason for this is that, without mutual checker, it's hard for me to keep up with who i am/am not following. with that being said please note that if we are not mutuals and you like starter calls i might not respond. if you come into my dms to plot then i will always be open to that, even if we're not mutuals!
two. plotting. i prioritize plotted relationships and interactions, as i like to get to know the mun before interacting and plotting makes it easier to write! anyone can always come in my ask box or dms to plot! i love talking about interactions our muses can have! going off of that i also love pre-established relationships! so please always feel free to message me if you have an idea
Three. portrayal. This blog is canon divergent/au based. i try to keep his characterization in line with canon as well as canon events, but my varian is based within the moon varian theory as well as moon blessed varian. basically he just has moon powers connected to the stone that remain within him after the sun and moon stone are returned to their rightful place. i also write him as being connected to zhan tiri. As stated, i do stick to canon events and expand on them with headcanons besides this though.
four. activity. i can be very slow sometimes. i'm autistic and adhd with executive disfunction so sometimes i can't always write, even if i'm online. if it's been about 3-4 days and i haven't responded to a thread, please feel free to give me a little poke!
five. formatting. i use small text and typically use icons, although sometimes i'll forgo them for convenience. i don't care about my partner matching format or length. i'd rather get a short reply to one of my long posts that has a lot of heart and energy in it than get a long reply that says nothing.
six. godmodding. i actually don't care much about godmodding. stab varian, kill him, say something he's doing, whatever. that being said if i don't agree with what is written then i'll dm and ask for it to be changed but on the whole, as long as it makes sense or is used to progress whatever plot we have, then i don't really care. go hog wild my friends.
seven. Relationships. i love pre-established relationships! if you want you can have your muse start treating varian like a friend right off the bat, though i'd prefer it if we plotted things out first. but other than that i love having established relationships and history with other muses! so please, help yourself
eight. timeline. i write varian within the timeline of season i to Varian and the seven kingdoms, which is the canceled extended sub canon comic that was being worked on by two storyboard artists of the show. this means that varian canonically ages between the source material from ages 14-20. i will not typically be using icons for any Varian and the seven kingdoms threads, since there's not much official art of him in his adult model, and i want there to be a clear distinction between threads of him in his youth verses adulthood.
nine. shipping. i adore shipping, and i love how varian interacts with crushes and plotting out romance, so if you want to ship with him please dm me and we can plot it out! Going off of the rule above though, since varian ages throughout the canon i will not ship him in his Varian and the seven kingdoms timeline with anyone who knew him as a child. if your muse is 18+ and you want to ship with him, i will only be interacting with that muse in the post season iii/Varian and the seven kingdoms half of his timeline. shipping within this part of his timeline is going to be selective as well.
ten. duplicates. i'm fine with duplicates! in fact, i love them! please give varian all the brothers! twin aus, alternate timeline aus, whatever you want!
eleven. headcanons. i headcanon varian as bi and trans. he uses he/him and they/them pronouns and topics of his trans identity will be brought up when i feel like discussing it. i also headcanon him as chubby. my reason for this is that there's not many chubby/fat characters in media that are portrayed in a positive light, so i'm taking a character that i personally connect to and giving him a body type that i wish to see more of within fandoms. if either of these things is off putting to you then this aint the blog for you buddy.

Biography. Varian was born when the air was frosted and the moon was full, a late night in december as his parents traveled back to their home in old corona after venturing out on ulla's request. the birth was blissfully easy, without pain or circumstance. and soon varian was brought into the world, eyes bright and hair crowned with the silver of moonlight.from the beginning he was a peculiar boy. after losing his mother during his babe-hood he was raised solely by his father, who provided him with everything he could ever want. Except his affections.quirin was always distant with his son. whether it be from heartache or willful neglect, that was hard to say. but he loved his son, or at least, he loved him as much as he was capable of loving him. between duties on the kings court and ruling over old corona, he had little time to care for varian, aside from the occasional scolding and disappointment.Varian, lacking his father's guidance and support, instead turned to his mother's old books. each one was full of exciting formulas and intriguing recipes and soon a new love replace the coldness of his fathers: Alchemy.Almost instantly varian proved to be a natural at the craft. The solutions and properties came to him as if from visions in a dream. he could make almost anything and build any machine to go along with it. With all of this ability and power, he only had one goal in mind. to make his father proud.though he was an outcast in his town, he harbored a strong affection and loyalty to his people. it was a ruinous love, one that could raze kingdoms and kill kings. His desire for his father's pride was his greatest strength, as well as his deepest weakness.he tried many times, always inventing for the good of the people. all he wanted was to make their lives easier, to make life better. but each attempt was met with scorn. he and his father lived in the same house, but the coldness between the walls of their relationship was something no hearth could ever warm. no matter how hard varian tried to reach out, his father refused to take his hand.Then came the day the black rocks arrived. They destroyed their village, tore up their crops, poisoned their people to sickness and even death. with no other option, varian joined his father to go seek help and asylum from the king, only to witness quirin-leader of old corona-lie.he lied about the plight of their people, the cause for their struggling, the reason for their need to expand their lands. and while varian burned in rage, he was told to be silent, to be a good son."that's enough, varian"still, he couldn't stand idly by and do nothing. the princess had promised her help and invigorated by his desire to help, he began experimentation on the black rocks. they called to him, as if wishing to whisper to him their secrets. when he touched them, for a moment he could swear that his hair glowed.quirin was not happy with this development. angered by his son's disobedience, he began to forbid him from any further research. it was then that varian had enough.during their argument, quirin's sudden and rude intrusion had caused a formula to slip out of varian's hands. the black rocks grew, became amber, and in an act that showed more love in a single moment than quirin had shown his son in his entire life, he blocked the blow, becoming incased in the hardening stone.distraught and heartbroken, varian tried everything to free his father. the princess could not aid him, and his search for help was only met with violence. rumors had started about the young boy, the dangerous wizard, the wild alchemist. soon, any attempts at help resulted in bruises, witch hunts, physical attacks upon his person. he had no hope, no friends, and only his cold, death rotten house to shelter him.But he still refused to give up. he studied the rocks and the stories of the sundrop, discovering the teachings of a powerful alchemist known as demanitus.this knowledge was forbidden. the king's own secret guard began hunting him down, until he had no choice but to once again seek help from the princess. that too failed him.The princess, entrapped in the lies and manipulation of her father, could not see the truth of what was happening. Varian stole the sunflower, marked as a traitor to the kingdom that he had at one point been willing to put down his life for."Your king has lied to you and vilified me."After being encompassed by his rage, he finally let the anger take him. he had tried every other option, every single peaceful possibility. he tried everything else, until the only remaining solution was to trust the hate within him. he would bring ruin to corona, he would bring death to the traitorous king.he failed.the princess was too strong and his love and hate were not enough. he was sent away, the king promising to give him the help he needed only to lock him away in the dungeons below. but that was a gift in disguise. there he found another who he thought he could trust. there he found the saporians.he joined forces with them, giving them the gift of his alchemy in excahnge for helping him with his goals. he would right the wrongs done to him, bring truth to the twisted story.the saporians, however, were traitors. their ideals didn't lie with the hope of a better world for the forgotten people, but instead with destruction and power. so once again varian was left with a choice. he joined the princess and her friends, turning his back on those he thought he could trust.once again, he was betrayed by those he held close. but at least his father was freed.then came the rise of the moonstone, the rebirth of zhan tiri. his friend lost to the lies of a monster who, once again, only wanted to use others for her gain. tired and world weary, he studied on his own, deciphering the scroll of demanitus to unlock the incantations of both sun and moon.and yet, though the spells were not for him, he could feel the pull of their words, the calling of their whispers yet again like visions in a dream.zhan tiri was vanquished and the stones returned to the heavens.but the moon remained within him.born of dark kingdom blood, blessed by the spirit of the moon herself, a chosen vessel of the power of the heavens. the stone might've been gone but the moon was always within him. She would not leave behind her favored son, he who was blessed with the gift of inginuity, who studied under her guiding light, who was raised by her glowing face. The world still needed a moonstone.and the goddess had chosen her favored long before he was ever born.
